Training and Experience

Freelance
1996 - Present: Webmaster, journalist and illustrator.

I have taken several computer-related courses at Long Beach City College. One of my favorites was the web design class. I learned many of the aspects that go into web page production, from initial concept to finished design, many topics were covered in the class.

The largest web site I have produced is for my current employer the Center for Learning Assistance Services (CLAS). Later renamed the Learning & Academic Resources Department (LAR). The department serves as the tutoring, supplemental instruction and computer lab center for Long Beach City College. As far as LBCC webpages go CLAS was the first department page to contain multimedia as well as be Section 508 (ADA) compliant. Both things I am proud to say I produced. The CLAS site catalogs the many services we have to offer and also has a web-based tutoring program that I also helped create. I also produced all of the images, video, text and graphics on the pages.

I have created many webpages and I contribute to many more however one that I am very proud of my Michael Lau bio / fanpage. Michael is an award-winning artist from Hong Kong. His most popular medium is the 12" figure. Michael creates the body, clothes, shoes, heads, accessories, hair, etc... all by hand. His collection of figure work has been displayed in multiple art shows in Hong Kong, Japan and Europe. Most of the webpages with any information about Michael are either in Chinese or Japanese. As a fan of his work I decided to put together a web page as a resource for English-speaking fans of Michael Lau.

Michael took the time to e-mail me thanks for supporting his work. Needless to say I was surprised and pleased that Michael had gone over my web pages. Ningyoshi's Workshop, producers and distributors of many fine Hong Kong collectable figures, added my page under their list of links and resources for Michael Lau information. I am flattered that my page is in the company of two other prominent Michael Lau web pages. One defunct page being from Viewsic (Sony of Japan) whom owns the Gardenergala license. The other link being for a Hong Kong magazine. Of the three web pages recognized by Ningyoshi's Workshop mine is the only one in English and not produced by a large company.

At the end of 2002 designer Maharishi teamed up with Michael to help produce a new figure and some exlusive designs. The Maharishi shop in London became the first place in Europe to buy Michael Lau's vinyl figures. On the Maharishi web page as well as in their press release my webpage is the resource for people trying to find out more information about Michael and his art.

In 2004 I was invited to speak about Michael Lau and Urban Vinyl at the Gamehotel event during the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, California. My history in the videogame community as well with Michael Lau allowed me to share relevant insights to the attendees, including several prominent game designers and administrators.
